I would go out on a limb and say that everyone who reads this post has said the word AMEN at least once in their life. For some this word may be a part of your daily vocabulary (good on ya as the Aussies would say :) So recently while doing a little reading on religion I discovered the meaning of Amen. True, I have said it 1,000s of times but why did I say it? Well honestly, that is how I was taught to finish a prayer and for some reason in my 20+ years of saying this word I have never stop to question its meaning. It is not like we say "All Good" or "That's right" or "Thanks" even. If we closed prayer with these words, I would get it. So back to AMEN. Amen means "I believe" or "It is True" in Latin. Amen began being said at the close of prayer to say to God that you believe that he heard your concerns and praises and that you believe his will will be done. So Amen= "I believe", beautiful. I could think of no better phrase to end a prayer. Hopefully this post was enlightening to you and the next time you say Amen, it will have just a touch more significance, as I know it does for me now.
