The NEW Elf in town

Have ya'll heard about this? Well if you are a parent of a kid from the ages of 3 to 8, I'm guessing you have. BUT this was all new to me and I am just LOVING it! You see there is a Shelf Elf... not the kind that is busy making toys at the Northpole with Santa. Oh no, this Elf lives at your house the whole month of December and reports back to Santa each night when you are sleeping about whether you were a good or bad little girl/boy that day. Now true, it seems a little manipulative, even could be taken as semi-harsh, maybe even damaging :) BUT a way to make your kids behave for an entire month- Genius! I think more of these little fictional characters need to be made up for other times throughout the year. I mean really what is the Easter Bunny or Toothefairy bringing to the table? Ya'll get all this worked out before I become a parent :)

Christmas Traditions

Don't you love all the TRADITION that surrounds the holiday season? I am a sucker for Tradition. Don't so much care what it is, if it's a tradition, I'm down with it! I think it is the knowing that is has been done many times before you, will continue to be done after you or that you are not messing things up by not playing along :) It is the feeling of being a part of something that I think really matters. So whether your holidays are steeped with tradition or if just putting up a Christmas tree and giving gifts are the only traditions you participate in, truly embrace them this year. And if you don't have many that really excited you... well then start your own. I made a NEW suggestion this year that I hope becomes a tradition. You see I have a BIG family. My Dad's has five other siblings and their spouses and then there are all the grand-kids like me (love still being called a kid, even if only in this sense)... and did I mention we all live close enough to get together for holidays, Sunday lunches, days on the lake, Wednesday ballgames... well just about everything! Back to my point, this year I suggested we do something for someone else as our "family gift" and share all the stories on Christmas Eve when we are all together. Normally we would draw a name of a family member to buy a gift for or play that horrible Chinese Christmas exchange gift game (which does not so much promote joy, peace and love with a family full of very competitive people). BUT this year we wanted to do something different. And thus the new "family gift" idea came about and everyone was excited. So we will see how well Christmas Eve stories go... and just maybe it will become a new tradition!

Slack...

Sorry I have been slack on the posts, but December proves to be quite a busy month. All the shopping, holiday get togethers, decorating, end of the year projects at work, weddings, football games, etc., etc. Somehow the days keep flying by? You ever feel like it just was July 4th? It is scary especially because "they", whoever they are, say it doesn't slow down...but continues to get faster and faster.

So take a deep breath, take it all in, linger by the tree a little longer... and enjoy!

Oh Christmas Tree...

Oh Christmas Tree!
OK- so my HUGE 9 foot artificial tree is up. Now my tree is still the old school kind where you insert branch by branch, all 100 of them. And none of this pre-lit business. Let's just say it was a process and a LENGTHY one at that. Don't get me wrong it is beautiful and full and oh so real looking. But 6-7 hours later, and I am not sure it will make it to see another Christmas. I may be going to the after Christmas sales and looking for me a new 3 piecer, you know the type :) But for one more year... enjoy the progress that was made :)
Oh how I love this time of year!
